Talking to Boys

When did talking to boys become so difficult? My son and his friend attended engineering camp at the University of Arkansas this week. (We’ll save the geektacular jokes for another post.) It’s a cool opportunity and I’m curious what they do all day, and being on the pick-up end of the carpool, you’d think I would be able to extract some decent information.

So, what’d you do today?

We did some stuff and then we had a lecture.

What kind of stuff?

Engineering, mostly.

And what was the lecture about?

Our schedule.

What about your schedule?

The things on it.

And those things are?

You know, the details.

And what would those details be?

About the stuff on our schedule.

Yeah, that’s what I’m trying to understand. So what is on your schedule?

Mom – WHY do you ask so many questions?

Oh, I totally get this. I paid a ridiculous amount of amount of money for my son to attend private school and everyday when I’d pick him up I’d ask what they learned and he’d say, “Nothing. I already knew all of it.” Nice. He’s going to public school this year. Well, because his school closed, but still…

I actually posted a Facebook status today on the subject of never understanding men, starting with my own sons.

Speaking as a man–albeit one who follows After the Bubbly–I can tell you that we don’t really understand each other either. And why do you ask so many questions?
