Can You Spare a Xanax?

I am blessed with more than my fair share of good friends, some of whom come with handy personal health histories that grant them access to highly sought after pharmaceuticals. Recently a friend of mine called to see if I still had the two Xanax she had given me — it must have been two years ago – for what reason neither she or I could remember. I wasn’t too adventurous with the fancy stuff even in my youth and a couple of bad post-surgical pain medication incidents have left me wary of anything stronger than Nyquil.
I knew I hadn’t taken the pills.
“I’m sure they’re around here somewhere,” I told her on the phone as I rifled through the basket of medicine I keep in the cupboard. “Unless I threw them out.”
There was laughter on the line. But then she realized I wasn’t joking. “Oh my God, Lela! Why would you throw them out? They have STREET VALUE!”
Luckily I found the pills, which my friend really did need for a legitimate medical reason - just FYI.
Moral of the story: Don’t give me anything I might accidentally toss. But if you need some Advil, I can hook you up anytime.
