Someone Thinks I’m Honest
by Lela Davidson on September 25, 2009
in It's All About Me

I have to start this post off with an apology because Candance, the Crazy Texas Mommy, was so kind to award me with the Honest Scrap Award a couple of weeks ago and I am only just now accepting. This award is for writing from the heart, so thank you. It means a lot.
Let me say too that, like Candance, I’m not one for the memes. But this is different. The timing was exquisite, landing in my inbox just after my first crushing defeat on the novel, and almost at the exact moment I decided I needed to get just a little more honest with my writing. I’m honored Candance thinks I’m so honest, especially because compared to her I’m like NBC at 6:pm.
Anyway – on with the award accepting. How this works is that I pass the award on to 7 other blogs and tell you 10 honest things about. And ladies, dear award recipients – no pressure, okay? (<-not even sarcastic)
Oh dread. Here we go.
7 Honest Bloggers
1. Wendi Aarons – I don’t care if you’re sick of the whole kissing-Wendi’s-butt vibe going on her lately. I like her. Deal with it.
2. Bern This – Her tag line is ‘Read this and you’ll never have to meet my family’. Plus, anyone who speaks openly about a wax job deserves this award.
3. Crazy Texas Mommy – What? I can’t give it back to the person I got it from. Crap! Too bad, because she’s the honest-est one out there.
4. MyPheme – This is that new website I contributed to this week. They’re all about telling it like it is. I’m hoping I can meet the challenge.
5. My Real Life Was Backordered – Denae is just incredibly cool. – you know, for a Mormon. She seems to tell the whole truth and nothing but it.
6. The Mouthy Housewives- Cheating a little here, because both Wendi Aarons and Jessica Berns contribute to this, but it’s good stuff anyway.
7. i am minivan- This is a new blog by Kate Meyers, who, when she’s not picking Cheezits out of the cracks of her minivan seats, writes celebrity interviews for real magazines. She tells stories about her life, which is messy, like the minivan.
10 Honest Things About Me
1. I don’t read a lot of blogs. I mean, I try, but seriously, I have a lot of other things to do, like write.
2. I’m not so fond of other peoples’ children.
3. I was born on Thanksgiving. I’m grateful for that.
4. I feel guilty about this post because most of those blogs are on my blogroll already. But whatever. See #1.
5. I wish I liked jazz, but I don’t.
6. I fall asleep during rented movies and then annoy my family with questions about the plot.
7. I jog about 8 miles a week, but I don’t consider myself a runner.
8. Country music makes me cry, but only if I’m alone in my car.
9. When I grow up I want to be Jodi Piccoult and David Sedaris.
10. Wherever I go, I meet anchorwomen.
My Favorite Funny Mom Blogs

I have finally gotten around to adding some links to my new blogroll. (Down there, on the right.) Go for a laugh and let them know you found them here on After The Bubbly!
Crazy Texas Mommy manages to mock the Stepford moms and the tatted granola parents at her kids meet the teacher nights. Sure, but did she piss off the office staff too? She still has a little to learn from this PTA mom.
Wendi Aarons makes me laugh out loud every time, but especially with this ode to back tats. And reminds me why I have no ink.
Jessica Bern is trying to survive single motherhood, her family of origin, and dating the under-employed. Now if only she could find her keys.
Okay – I promise to add more soon. These are my favorites.
Pass the Bubbly: What do Kate Gosselin, Gene Rayburn, and Metallica Have in Common?

Okay – Kate Gosselin, Gene Rayburn, and Metallica have nothing in common other than being included in this edition of Pass the Bubbly. That’s what we’re calling these link posts from now on. So if you know of any funny people who need some bubbly links, let me know.
- Wendi Aarons totally agrees with me on the whole Kate Gosselin hair thing. And she’s having six more kids to get hotter. Plus, she has a new website and we love her so please check her out here: http://wendiaarons.com/.
- I just found Citizen of the Month. In this post he ponders the ever evolving etiquette of meeting in public.
- Boob, Injuries, and Dr. Pepper has me terrified of summer vacation already.
- Anyone who admits to a crush on Gene Rayburn deserves our attention.
- YesButNotYes found Legos rocking out to Metallica. Make sure you watch until the end – otherwise you’ll miss the mosh pit.
I hope you enjoy, and if you can find any other connections between Kate, Ray, and the boys of speed metal, please share.

Here are some of the things that amused me this week.
- Wendi Aarons threw down the new rules for Easter Egg hunts.
- Jessica Bern reminds us to think twice before asking for the credit card customer service manager.
- Sugar Jones implores us to resist the draw of the sexy Peekaroo.
- Munchausen by Peanut – Laura Bennet and the rant I wish I’d written.

If you’re in NWA, you can read my pearly wisdom every month in the Chasing Date Night column in Peekaboo. (In addition to After the Bubbly, of course.) And if you’re far away, or if you missed a few, or you just don’t leave the house long enough to traipse into your local Starbucks, here’s a sample:
Top 5 Ways to Date Yourself – And before you even comment, let me remind you this is a family publication.
Taking the Scary Out of Halloween Date Night – Out of season, but one of my favorites anyway.

- If you’ve never checked out Patti Digh’s 37 Days, you ought to. Her blog is all about living with intention – living each day as if you only had 37 of them left. Peek at the blog, then buy her new book, Life is a Verb. It makes a great (inexpensive) gift!
- Sugar reminds us to remind ourselves, particularly to be strong and optimistic. Which reminds me, I’ve been meaning to make one of these. What’s your inspiration?
- Lindsay gives a really cute idea for collecting children’s handprints through the years. I always envy this kind of forethouht to create a tradition and keepsake.
- Jessica Bern makes you feel better about your own inadequacies when it comes to helping out with homework.
- Marye Audet’s Baking Delights blog is not all about baking. She’s got great recipes and make ahead ideas for big families and holidays. (Would you believe I have mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, and green bean casserole already frozen for Thanksgiving? I’m psycho that way!)
