Giving Thanks

Some days this being a Mom business is really worth it. Here’s what the girl brought home from school today:

(spelling errors corrected)

These are three things I am thankful for.
First, I am thankful for my friends and loving family.
My mom gives me food every day.
Second, I am happy for all my food.
Some children don’t have any food.
Last, I am grateful for my house.
Some children don’t have one.
All in all, I am thankful for a lot of things.

It’s important to note that she appreciates the fact that I give her food every day. It’s the little things… I hope you had a wonderful holiday full of thanks and giving. Now it’s time to brace yourself for all the joy that is Christmas. Whatever your thoughts on Christmas time, it’s here. You can go with it, you can bear through it, you can sing every last tune. Me? I’m stocking the liquor cabinet and stocking the shelves with vitamin C and Alka Seltzer. See you under the tree!

The Holiday Sweater: Take Your Stand

Speaking of Wal-Mart, this is what I saw (or something like it) in the aisles the other day.

I wore a Halloween sweater once.

Well… sort of. Peer pressure is a funny thing. I was working in a place where, the week before Halloween, everyone was all a twitter about the chance to wear their holiday sweaters. We worked with the public so I didn’t feel like I could NOT wear one. Unwilling to shell out hard earned cash for a peice of clothing that turned my stomach, but wanting to go with the flow, I did what any rational, somewhat rebellious woman would do. I made my own. I bought a black tshirt and sewed onto it a cute little cotton ghost decoration that you might put on a table or in a bowl of candy. I was 3-D. I rocked the holiday attire. I’m not going to say my shirt was better than everybody else’s sweater, but I could. If I wanted to.

I’ve also only worn a Chirstmas sweater once. Two words: Junior League.
