Have You Earned Your Mother’s Day?

This Mother’s Day I suggest you take a good long look at yourself to ascertain whether or not you really deserve that Hallmark card. Oh, sure, they say you’re a good mother, maybe even the best. What else can they say – you are their food source. But are you a really a good mother? Are you as good a mother as I am? I doubt it. Ask yourself these questions to find out.

If you can’t answer yes to most of all of these questions, what makes you think you deserve the card with the embossing and the ribbon? Much less the grocery story bouquet. Get over yourself, Mother.

Since Dads usually suck, most Moms look great by comparison. It was never considered manly to make my son’s favorite deserts or teach him the value of respectful communication, so I had to settle for buying him a six pack of beer on his thirteenth birthday. I figured ignoring my daughter was the most parental thing I could do, except when I was embarrassing her whenever possible. In case you’re wondering, Dads get cards so the kids won’t have to put up with high-lonesome sighs, hangdog looks, and being cut out of the will. No flowers please.

Uh, yeah. At first I read this and was all, “Serious? She’s not serious. This is funny.” And then I read your post about Charlie Brown and was like, “Yeah. She was serious. That was some great parenting. I can’t stand her.” But then, of course, in my heart I knew you were JUST THIS FUNNY and not serious, so with unreserved jealousy, I heart you. You might be my new favorite blogger, and given the fact that I, since flopping myself into blogging, have read enough blogs to make me want to throw up a (lot) little, that’s something.

Also, I found you by trying to find inspiring examples of the Frugal theme in action, and you’ve done that too.

Is there anything you can’t do.

  3. Leslie – best compliment all month. Thank you, thank you, thank you. And I love your blog. I need some crunchy beauty. Do I ever.
