Confession: I Didn’t Send Christmas Cards

Do you get overwhelmed at the holidays? No, not you over there with the cookies baked, the shopping done, and coordinating gifts under the tree. Heavens no. But I do. That’s why this year decided to slack off on one of my very favorite traditions: Christmas cards.

Maybe writing so much made me less excited about the annual Christmas letter, or maybe I just couldn’t face that ever growing list of addresses. To say nothing of the labeling, the pictures, the personal notes on each of the cards.

This year I became one of THOSE people – a non-reciprocating Christmas card getter! I will enjoy each and every card I receive. I will savor them all. But you won’t get one from me. Don’t take it personally.

Okay, maybe in January I’ll send something…
But I won’t commit. It’s too overwhelming.

What are you doing this season to fight overwhelm? Parent Bloggers and Family Aware want to know. (And they want to help! Check them out.)

Don’t feel bad…I didn’t send them out either – lol.

I didn’t send them either. And judging from the less than usual amount of cards I have received, we are not alone!

My wife did send out about 60 cards but I wouldn’t feel bad about it if she hadn’t. You shouldn’t either. Especially since you have a great blog that friends and family could subscribe to and see what’s going on. Tell them to get a feed reader and subscribe. Maybe that’s what you’re card in January should say!

One year I wrote a Christmas letter and then life grabbed me around the neck. Once I shook myself free, I realized that I could update the letter and still send it out. I actually felt proud knowing that everyone would take the time to read MY Christmas letter this year. Before I mailed them off, I spruced them up a bit with little holiday stickers. The red hearts glittered and the sweet cupids smiled at me as I slid the stack of letters into the mail box. As I walked away I knew I could mark this up as a job well done. The cards would arrive just in time for a holiday ( does it really matter which one?).

  5. Mary, Labor Day cards I’m thinking. Little boat stickers and sunscreen samples. No?
